World Class Herb Corrects Defects in Intestinal Permeability / Leaky Gut Syndrome/Anti-viral Effective in killing Epstein Barr virus!

Studies Beginning in the 1970’s Suggest Many Uses for Cat’s Claw

Although virtually unheard of in the United States until recently, the beneficial effects of the Peruvian herb Uncaria tomentosa, commonly known as uña de gato in Spanish and cat’s claw in English, have been studied at research facilities in Peru, Austria, Germany, England, Hungary and Italy, since the 1970’s. These studies suggest that the herb may be beneficial in the treatment of arthritis, bursitis, allergies, diabetes, lupus, chronic fatigue syndrome, cancer, herpes, organic depression, menstrual irregularities and disorders of the stomach and intestines.(1,2,3)

Properties attributed to cat’s claw include:

Adaptogenic Antimicrobal Antioxidant Antiviral Anti-inflammatory Antitumor

Cat’s Claw…A Remarkable Intestinal Cleanser

After using cat’s claw in working with approximately 150 patients between 1988 and 1992, Dr. Brent Davis reports that “Uncaria tomentosa has the ability to break through severe intestinal derangements that no other available products can touch.”

He refers to the herb as “the opener of the way” because of its remarkable ability to cleanse the entire intestinal tract and help patients suffering from many different stomach and bowel disorders including leaky bowel syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, hemorrhoids, fistulas, gastritis, ulcers, parasites and intestinal flora imbalance.

By cleansing the intestinal walls, cat’s claw enables the body to better absorb nutrients, thus helping to correct nutritional imbalances created by digestive blockages. Many doctors today believe that cat’s claw may have a “profound ability to get rid of deep-seated infection lodged in the bowel and perhaps even the mesentery, which can derange the uterus and associated anatomic parts: the prostate, liver, spleen, kidneys, thymus and thyroid, for starters.”

Davis calls cat’s claw “a world class herb which has the power to arrest and reverse deep-seated pathology, allowing a more rapid return to health…”

The Ashanika Indians of Peru have long regarded uña de gato tea as a sacred beverage. It is used as a cleansing and tonic herb for the immune, intestinal and structural systems.

In traditional medicine of Peru, uña de gate (Cat’s Claw) is categorized as a “warm plant” or, more accurately, for warm conditions (inflammations) including arthritis, gastritis, asthma and dermal and genito urinary tract inflammations. It is also used to treat diabetes, cancer, tumors, viral infections, menstrual disorders convalescence and debility. A few tribes also use cat’s claw as a remedy for dysentery, and at least one tribe uses the herb to treat gonorrhea.

Cat’s Claw Can Reduce Pain and Inflammation in Arthritic Conditions

The anti-inflammatory effects of cat’s claw have proven beneficial in the treatment of arthritis, rheumatism, bursitis and gout. As an antioxidant, it also helps protect cells from damage caused by free radicals.

Its beneficial effects in treating arthritis pain may also be due, in part, to its ability to cleanse the digestive tract and aid in removing toxins from the body. Arthritis, joint pain and inflammation as well as chronic fatigue, allergies, immune deficiency and a host of other conditions have been associated with defects in intestinal permeability (leaky bowel syndrome) and toxin overload.

Some of the glycosides present in the herb may also add protection from pain. This may explain, in part, how cat’s claw has been helpful in reducing pain associated with chemotherapy, radiation treatment and AZT use.

A wealth of beneficial phytochemicals have been found in cat’s claw including quinovic acid glycosides, several oxindol alkaloids, proanthocyanidins, polyphenols, triterpines and the plant sterols beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol and campesterol. Researchers believe that the activity of the whole plant extract is greater than the sum of its parts. Our formulation is from the Inner Bark of the plant which contains all of the properties of healing.

Cat’s Claw Alkaloids Stimulate General Immunity

Unique alkaloids in uña de gato seem to enhance the immune system in a general way. These alkaloids have a pronounced effect on the ability of white blood cells to engulf and digest harmful micro-organisms and foreign matter.

Austrian researcher Klaus Keplinger has obtained two U.S. patents for isolating some of the herb’s major components. According to these patents, six oxindol alkaloids have been isolated from cat’s claw and four of these have been proven “suitable for the unspecified stimulation of the immunologic system”.

Laboratory testing has shown these alkaloids to have a pronounced enhancement effect on phagocytosis (the ability of the white blood cells and macrophages to attack, engulf and digest harmful micro-organisms, foreign matter and debris). The most immunologically active alkaloid appears to be isoteropodine or isomer A.

Cat’s claw has also been shown to increase the production of leukocytes and specifically T4 lymphocytes, thus blocking the advance of many viral illnesses. Quinovic acid glycosides in cat’s claw back up the immune system and protect the body from viruses and virus caused cancers.(11)

Dr. Donna Schwontkowski, D.C., calls cat’s claw the most powerful immune-enhancer of all the herbs native to the Peruvian Amazon. Preliminary studies suggest that the herb has the ability to stop viral infections in the early stages, help patients who are chemically sensitive, fight opportunistic infections in AIDS patients and decrease the visible size of some skin tumors and cysts.

According to Dr. Satya Ambrose, N.D., cat’s claw seems to enhance overall immunity while increasing stamina and energy in patients who suffer from physical and mental exhaustion due to an overactive or stressful lifestyle.

While inflammation has been pinpointed as a part of persistent illness, what has yet to be discovered by medical research is the real story about why this inflammation is present in the first place. So often the viral explosion in our modern world is to blame. Various strains and varieties (most undiscovered by medical research and science) of the Epstein-Barr virus, shingles, HHV-6, and other herpetic viruses, along with bacteria and parasites, are behind a great many people’s suffering. To get rid of this widespread inflammation and the other debilitating symptoms of chronic illness, we have to get rid of the pathogens. Enter cat’s claw, the herb also known by the Spanish name uña de gato. Cat’s claw is one of the most powerful resources for reversing the epidemic of chronic and mystery illness in the 21st century.
Powerful Ally For Any Illness & Symptom
Cat’s claw is a tropical woody vine whose bark has been harvested for hundreds of years for medicinal purposes. Cat’s claw can aid in alleviating almost any symptom, from neurological to digestive. While cat’s claw has gotten some attention for its healing properties, it is as yet unknown to science that the herb contains bioactive pharma-compounds that supersede synthetic pharmaceuticals. All too often, antibiotics are employed against certain illnesses such as Lyme disease. The world would be a different place if cat’s claw took the place of antibiotics; the rate of illness would reduce, and recovery would quicken, regardless of the diagnosis for a given illness. Of course, pharmaceutical antibiotics have their place and purpose. Cat’s claw is unique, though, in that pathogens such as bacteria cannot become resistant to it, as they sometimes can to antibiotics. For more than three decades, I’ve espoused the miraculous healing benefits of cat’s claw because it is such an essential support for so many conditions and symptoms.
Adaptogenic Weapon Against Viruses, Bacteria & Parasites
Parasites such as Babesia and bacteria such as Bartonella cannot withstand the wrath of cat’s claw. The herb eliminates these and other bugs without the so-called Herxheimer die-off reaction so common with antibiotics, because the bioactive pharma-compounds in the herb regulate the destruction of pathogens so that it’s at a level the individual person can tolerate. Cat’s claw is also incredible at fighting viruses such as Epstein-Barr virus (almost everyone has at least one of the over 60 varieties of EBV–find out more in Medical Medium Thyroid Healing: The Truth behind Hashimoto’s, Graves’, Insomnia, Hypothyroidism, Thyroid Nodules & Epstein-Barr. Eventually medical research will discover a group of antiviral adaptogens, and scientists will realize that cat’s claw is at the top of that list. The herb is the ultimate secret weapon for battling PANDAS (pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococcal infections), ALS, strep throat, MS, mystery aches and pains, and more.
Cat’s claw is also remarkable for its ability to rid the body of the infamous strep, which is frequently misdiagnosed as yeast or Candida. Millions of women go on antibiotics and antifungals that only end up making problems worse, because the Streptococcus bacteria that causes urinary tract infections is so often antibiotic-resistant. Cat’s claw lowers strep without issue, making it the ultimate UTI-alleviating herb and a fundamental tool of our time. Strep is also the true cause of of many other symptoms and conditions, including cystic acne, bacterial vaginosis, SIBO, sinus pain and congestion, otitis media, intestinal disorders, sore throats, styes, and more. Cat’s Claw is also a fantastic herb to knock down E.coli, C. difficile and other bacteria.
Brain & Liver Support
The glycosides, proanthocyanidins and beta sitosterol found in cat’s claw exert a beneficial effect on memory, making it an excellent supplement for the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and other cognitive/memory disorders. It also assists the liver’s personalized immune system, giving it a chance to recoup its strength and restore itself for the next battle. It helps the liver stabilize its environment.
Anti-Inflammatory, Anti-Cancer, & Anti-Tumor
Most cancers and tumors are caused by viruses such as EBV. Cat’s claw knocks down viruses while strengthening the immune system, making it a powerful support for cancer and tumors. To understand more about the true cause of cancers, you can read the chapter on Liver Cancer in Medical Medium Liver Rescue: Answers to Eczema, Psoriasis, Diabetes, Strep, Acne, Gout, Bloating, Gallstones, Adrenal Stress, Fatigue, Fatty Liver, Weight Issues, SIBO & Autoimmune Disease. It’s also a powerful anti-inflammatory.
Note that if you’re pregnant or trying to conceive, keep cat’s claw out of your medicinal regimen.

Spiritual Lesson
People are constantly on the search for the Holy Grail of health. As every new trend hits, we hope that this is the answer, the protection we’ve been waiting for, the discovery that will change our lives. Meanwhile, a miracle medicinal—cat’s claw—sits on the shelf of the health food store, and we pass it by. Or we add it to our herbal tool kit and forget to use it. It comes from the tropical jungle, so you’d think its exotic origin would pique more interest. Yet it’s within reach now, attainable, and so we figure it’s too accessible to be the real thing. If we gave cat’s claw a real chance, we would see that it really is a magical healer.
Throughout life, we overlook similar saving graces. Cat’s claw teaches us to reevaluate them. Have you ever underestimated a person, resource, object, or opportunity, and then realized in hindsight that you’d passed up the gift of a lifetime? What’s out there right now that could help if you let it? Cat’s claw teaches us that sometimes what we seek is within reach. We just need to have the presence of mind to recognize those everyday miracles that have made their way to us, so we can seize them.
